Project 86 On The Road

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Tooth and Nail recording artists PROJECT 86 are now counting down the days to an extremely busy summer. Having just finished their sixth full-length album, Rival Factions which is slated for release on June 19th, the Orange County residents will spend the entire summer on the road playing to their fan base that is ten years strong, but sure to enlist many more along the way (dates below).

Project 86 will be heading to Chicago to join the Tooth and Nail Tour on June 5th alongside the likes of MxPx, Sullivan and The Classic Crime for a handful of dates. Then, Project 86 will headline their own tour with Showbread, Inhale/Exhale and Chasing Victory. Kicking off at Cincinnati’s The Underground on June 16th, the Rival Factions tour will make its way as far east as Buffalo, NY, head south for two shows in North Carolina and then head back westward to close out the tour with a hometown show at Anaheim’s House of Blues on July 6th.

From the Cure-ish swirl of “Old Wave” to the minor key stomp of “Death Before Dishonor” to the punk brashness of “Light ‘Em Up”, Rival Factions is an album that moves Project 86 out of the metal category and into mainstream rock. “This is the first album that we highlighted the keyboards,” vocalist Andrew Schwab says. “Other than that, we haven’t really evolved at all. We were always on the fringes of the different styles of rock. That afforded us the ability to evolve naturally into what we are. We have always existed in this space that doesn’t sit with a particular genre or group, which wasn’t necessarily intentional, but has been a blessing nonetheless.”

Bryan Scary And The Shredding Tears On Tour

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

(NEW DATES!)

Every instrument on the album was played by Scary, save the drums, which were that of Jeremy Black from Apollo Sunshine. The mix was also performed by Brian McTear at Miner Street Studio in Philly and mastered by Paul Hammond and Paul Sinclair.

23-year-old Scary, who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, first moved to New York at the ripe age of 18 to study Film Production at New York University. Aside from tending to his studies, Scary spent much of his time at college dabbling in music and creating home demos of his work. It was during those years that The Shredding Tears first started to take shape.

Not long after, west coast record label Black and Greene picked up on Scary’s talent and released The Shredding Tears to the public this past February. The album is also being internationally released in Australia, Japan and Europe. Don’t miss Bryan Scary and The Shredding Tears this May when they head out for a summer-long national tour in support of The Shredding Tears!

Blessthefall Frontman Craig Mabbitt Injured

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Arizona’s Blessthefall have been forced to cancel the five remaining dates of their tour with Four Letter Lie after front man Craig Mabbitt was injured on the set of the band’s new music video earlier this week.

While shooting the first scene in Pennsyvania on Monday, Mabbitt was accidentally hit in the face by band mate Eric Lambert’s guitar, resulting in several broken teeth and injuries to his face.

Blessthefall’s upcoming dates with Protest the Hero and their summer stint on the Smartpunk Stage at Vans Warped Tour will go on as scheduled (see dates below)

Lambert has posted the following update for the band’s fans:

“We were shooting our new video with I Endeavor Media out in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania. We did our first shot in the basement of a barn.

It was a very tight area with not much room and someone was bound to get hurt at sooner or later. It unfortunately had to happen to Craig.

The story is that I threw my guitar back thinking Craig wasn’t near me and when I ripped my guitar forward, Craig’s teeth and flesh came with it. We immediately stopped to see if he was okay. When he looked up at me I thought we were going to have to cancel the shoot. His face was a mess with broken teeth, a bloody eye, and a huge blood blister on his lower lip. He was in a good amount of pain, but he just took a few swigs of water, a sit down, and then was ready to get the shoot back on track.

We eventually finished the video shoot and were completely stoked that Craig was able to finish. Unfortunately we soon found out that it is near impossible to sing without your front teeth. We had to make a decision that night and the only way we would be able to continue as a full band on our upcoming tours is if we sent Craig home the next day to get his teeth fixed.

After coming to that conclusion, we realized we couldn’t find a replacement for him in that short amount of time for the next couple shows. We were forced to cancel the next 5 shows but we will still be attending to hang out with the fans and the bands. We plan on making up the 5 dates in the near future.

We never cancel shows but we found we had to make an exception this time. All other upcoming tour dates (Protest the Hero and Warped Tour) will go on as scheduled because Craig should be up and ready by that time.

We’ve been receiving a lot of support from the fans and we are truly grateful for all of their concern. And again, we are very sorry that we can’t do the last leg of this current tour. We will see you guys soon and we’ll rock out!”

Catch Aaron Ross On Tour

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Aptly described by its title, Aaron Ross’ solo effort Shapeshifter is more than a listening experience but a poetic endeavor that explores the scope of life. Each song tells a magnificently dynamic tale, complete with a lyrical imagery reminiscent of greats like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, and sung with the heartfelt resolve that makes Ross’ voice one-of-a-kind. At first listen, it’s hard to believe the front man for California rockers Hella had a cache of folk-inspired and orchestral-touched song secreted in his soul but as each verse unlocks his impassioned reflection it is clear they’ve been burgeoning since long ago.

Aaron Ross has most recently been known as the powerful voice of the experimental rock outfit Hella, but in his local community of Nevada City, CA, he is the most respected of the area’s most prominent musicians and his reputation as a devoted family man may explain the sparks that developed into the beautifully arranged Shapeshifter. Each experience, whether weathered or uplifting, led to the blossoming of each song from beginning to finish and each contributor on the album, from cello to drum, was given the liberty to alter and explore their parts as they saw fit. Calling on friends Neal Morgan of Joanna Newsom’s Ys Street Band, Dan Elkan and David Torch of Them Hills, Jonathan Hischke of Kings & Queens and cellist Luke Janela, Ross fashioned the picture and let each musician fill in the color. Ross enlisted the help of Elkan on production as well (also of Hella and Holy Smokes fame), reasoning: “I believe you should work only with people who believe in your music as much as it were there own and he did, everyone who played on the record did.” Written in the fall of 2006 and recorded early 2007, the result is a stunning example of the splendor created when a handful of gifted musicians align their spirits.

Each track is a contemplative journey complete with a beginning, climax and finale. Ross’ tenor voice, always unwavering, leads the way as tumultuous drums juxtapose with spry cello melodies on the opening track “Pass the Peace Pipe.” On “Looking Glass Mass”, a folk romp that could easily be passed down from one generation to the next provides a lighthearted undercurrent to powerful words on the simplicity of life: “You can laugh and you can cry but everybody still must die.” Charged words of freedom and spirituality take the spotlight on “Mississippi Burnin”, as a guitar lullaby summons the listener closer before culminating into an all-out jam. The album’s finale, “Speak the Truth”, showcases Ross’ remarkable vocal agility and leaves the listener with a resounding message on humanity.

Aaron Ross will tour the west coast with fellow friends Alela Diane, Mariee Sioux, Lee Bob Watson and Benjamin Oak Goodman on the Grass Roots Record Co Summer Revue tour in June. The Grass Roots Family Album is available now at www.grassrootsrecordco.com.
