Juliette And The Licks is a project of actress Juliette Lewis, who has been in movies like Natural Born Killer and From Dusk Til Dawn. The combination of the band’s rock and roll sound, energetic stage presence, and heavy use of Lewis’ sexuality has resulted in giving the band enough clout to play with huge names like Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stoneage, and Muse. They are now on tour again with Muse, for a pairing that is guaranteed not to disappoint. This track is a remix by Toronto-based eletronic outlet MSTRKRFT! Enjoy it. Enjoy it good. Tour dates are below.

Feist - “One Evening”

Let’s have a Feist party right here All sparked in part due to this Feist performance below which was on David Letterman. Like Feist or not, if you’re a fan of mainstream indie rock, you probably will recognize a few faces in the performance below, including individuals from Minus The Bear and Broken Social Scene! Of the tracks above, “Mushaboom” is a Postal Service Remix. “One Evening” is a track off of Feist’s last album, Let It Die! Enjoy!
Neon Horse is Tooth & Nail’s latest “buzz band”. The identity of the band members is rather unknown (although there is much speculation)… but I don’t care about all that. What I do care about is that they have an awesome, twisted music video for their song, “Cuckoo!” which is like a birthday party gone wrong coupled with old horror movies and weirdness like that of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”
Speaking of “Black Hole Sun” — you should watch that video too if you for some absurd reason have never seen it. One of the most memorable videos, possibly ever! Although looking back now, the sky and such are just terrible looking. Both videos are linked below.
And what good would we be if we didn’t provide you with a “Black Hole Sun” MP3 download?! NO GOOD. Here it is.

Circa Survive - “Act Appalled”

Here are two Circa Survive tracks for your listening pleasure. The first is off of Juturna, and the second is off their latest album, On Letting Go.
Circa Survive is one of those bands who walks the line between experimental rock and indie rock yet attracts fans in the punk and hardcore scene. This is primarily due to the fact that their lead singer, Anthony Green (who is idolized by many fans), was formerly in Saosin. The fact that they are on Equal Vision Records is also a contributing factor.
Fans of this band will tell you that they are absolutely amazing. But why listen to me? See what they have to say about it. It’s more worthwhile. Here are some of the best answers from our contest entries for the question: “What do you like best about Circa Survive?”
“There are so many things I can talk about what I like the best about them. Not only are they amazing musicians, but nicest people from the heart. They care about their fans, trying to connect with them in so many ways besides the music they produce. They are unique & help out others as much as they can. I’ve meet the guys & they help out with cancer and breast organizations in so many ways. There are countless of things I can talk about Circa Survive & one thing is certain, they never have lost their identities as their music is getting spread.”"what i like best about circa is their integrity… they truly appreciate their ability to create and perform music on an everyday basis and appreciate their fans tremendously.. i think they are a perfect example of what music is… oh, and have you listened to em? c’mon!”"Their undeniable undefined way of blending music, almost in a way to mentally bring you INTO it.”"When I listen to them, it’s like a breath of fresh air. Their music is both refreshing and haunting at the same time. They are truly unique. I think that it’s safe to say I am in love with this band.”
“Juturna was amazing and that album will stay in my heart forever, but On Letting Go…this album has helped me with a lot of hard times going on in my life. This album deals with religion, drugs, a special girl, and letting go of important things in your life that wont come back. I owe a lot to Circa Survive. The lyrics and melodies of every song are like no other band. While listening to this band, I’m carried away into a dream world.”
“how their lyrics are like no other, the way the crowd loves them, how the band members just go hang out with the fans, their personalities are amazing. I love them because of who they are not because of what they are.”
“The thing I like best about circa survive is the mood their music puts me in. No matter what time of the day or how i feel when i put on any of their songs it puts me in this certain mood than cannot be described. no other band can do this too me, and for that Thanks Circa! I also love how they are always on the road, touring for their fans….and when they play live you can tell every member loves each song they play, they truly love playing there own music, which i don’t think a lot of bands do, nowadays”
“They’re very passionate about their music and they always have tons of energy on stage. After shows, they even take the time to communicate with fans and sign autographs. I’ve always been a huge fan of Anthony Green since the Saosin days, so I’m glad to see that he’s still making incredible music.”
“I honestly just sincerely love their music. Their music is way out of range for me to sing too, but I still try. I think it’s great that I can just hop around in my room and play them loud. I’m probably the only one in my family who understands the words though. They’ve also affected my life, I almost lost faith in God until I listened to “Kicking Your Crosses Down.” It made me realize that you have to persevere through the doubts. It’s great all of it, most of the thanks for me being introduced to this fierce music would be Clayton. He gave me some of their older music and then one day came up with their newest album (On Letting Go) as a gift for me. I probably annoy him with how much I listen to their Cd.”
“I think the best thing about Circa Survive is that there simply is no other band like them. Probably the most outstanding characteristic that they have is Anthony Green’s voice, I mean it is almost orgasmic - but everything works so well that harmonies and melodies get me hooked everytime. It’s their will to try out new stuff and be original that blows out any competition!”
“They are the fucking shit and they attract the bitches.”
“The other worldly vocals. The soaring guitars. The intense and unique lyrics. Everything that separates them from all the other bands these days. It’s perfect for anything, be it just playing in the background while I work, or blasting it for full enjoyment, even just something to sing in the shower (though theres no way I can match Anthony). Every mix CD I’ve made since hearing On Letting Go has had a Circa Survive song on it and those are the reasons why.”
“Their live show. Each band member brings such incredible (and infectious) energy to their performance; they are one of the few bands I can think of where, as an audience member and fan, you can clearly tell how much they love the music they are making.”
“Circa Survive are a thought provoking band that expands music’s ability to experiment with its instruments. When listening to Circa it is a fun challenge to listen to each instrument separately. The music creates a wide open dimension that allows me to feel through their music. I have been overly impressed by the band for years, starting with Colin F. with This Day Forward, Anthony Green’s Audience of One, High and Driving and Sounds of Animals Fighting. They are now teamed up to create what music should be.”
“they are a fun band to TRY to sing along with”
“Anthony Green’s writing and his voice. Its so different from whats out right now that it stands out. I am not a normal listener to rock music, I prefer hip hop and I still love this band.”
“The best part of Circa Survive to me is their allure. The music swallows you whole, while Anthony’s vocals dance around you, bringing you the warmth of security. Each piece of the music blends so well into the next, it’s like a tapestry woven together with no plans to end. They continue to move forward with their writing style, and are going to be a very influential band in years to come. They’re already making a huge impact and it will only become greater.”
M83 ANNOUNCES AMBIENT SERIES: DIGITAL SHADES
“DIGITAL SHADES VOL. 1″ RELEASED DIGITALLY 9/4/07
ONLINE INTERACTIVE LISTENING PARTY 8/27/07
NEW M83 ALBUM TO BE RELEASED EARLY 2008
Digital Shades is an ongoing ambient series from acclaimed French musician M83, aka Anthony Gonzalez. “Digital Shades Vol. 1″ will be released in the U.S. digitally on September 4, 2007. Originally recorded in 2006, “Digital Shades Vol. 1 “will precede the release of M83’s next full-length artist album. The album, as yet untitled, is set for release in early 2008 and will be a continuation of the vast and epic soundscapes that are synonymous with M83. Gonzalez’ is currently in the studio working on the album, which is being recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron).
Listeners will find the same textured richness throughout the Digital Shades series as can be found on all of M83’s releases. And while not a categorical sonic shift, Digital Shades follows its individual elegiac, lunar and dream-like path.
Recorded primarily at his home studio with the assistance of Antoine Gaillet, (who also worked on “Before the Dawn Heals Us”), Gonzalez was able to work without pressure, working on the record at his own time and pace. Inspired by Eno and Krautrock in its many forms, M83 focused heavily on subtleties and atmospherics during the writing process. The idea of digital, relevant during all the process (from creating the music to sharing it), gave him the idea to call the project “Digital Shades Vol.1″, and to make the album part of an ongoing series.
Fans can enjoy a sneak preview of the album during a special online interactive listening party and Q&A with Gonzalez on Monday 8/27/07 at 2pm EST. To attend, register at www.ilovem83.com.

* with Art in Manila
Omaha, Nebraska’s The Good Life are gearing up to tour the country this fall, in support of their incredible fourth album, Help Wanted Nights, out on Saddle Creek Records on September 11th. The tour, which starts in Omaha on September 24th, sees the band making their way coast to coast with the support of Art in Manila on select shows.
The Good Life, an amazing four-piece made up of Cursive’s Tim Kasher, Roger Lewis, Ryan Fox and Stefanie Drootin, has created one of the fall’s most beautiful albums in Help Wanted Nights. Recorded by A.J. Mogis in Omaha, NE, the songs on Help Wanted Nights were written to take place in the same small-town bar, and were initially meant as the soundtrack to a screenplay that Kasher started writing in 2006 (he’s since completed it). The resulting recordings, all set to tape, show the compositions on Help Wanted Nights as more stripped down than previous Good Life creations. Which is not to say that these songs don’t have density to them; these songs contain some of the boldest characters of any Good Life LP, all of whom are sorting through blurred emotions, sometimes described in vicious, heart-battering detail. Akin to the stark lyricism of artists like Bruce Springsteen, each track digs into deep emotional territory through its narrative and melodies. Indeed, with one listen, it’s easy to see that Help Wanted Nights contains some of the greatest tunes in The Good Life’s catalogue.
Live, the band does not fail to disappoint. Its members, who have all played with artists such as Bright Eyes, Cursive, Neva Dinova, and more in addition to The Good Life, are all veteran performers, and know the value of taking a great song out of your stereo and onto the stage. These are shows you absolutely should not miss!
Marnie Stern - “Every Single Line”
New York, NY
File Size: 4.21mb, Length: 3:40
(Right-click above link to save on a PC, control-click to save on a MAC)
What a revelation Marnie Stern’s music is to me. If someone just described this to me before I listened to it I’d more than likely shrug it off - blazing guitar riffs, neurotically virtuosic drums, scream/sing vocals - too much for someone who gets a headache from a car alarm going off. But Stern’s music must be heard to be believed. First, she pulls it all off with a striking sense of melody. One would expect a cacophonous mess, but there’s an amazing fluidity to it. Second, Stern seems to make up the new breed of guitar-based music that’s fighting against the tired cliches of organicism. Much like Battles, Stern’s sound is so dense and affected that the lines between the original sound source and the end result is blurred beyond much recognition (admittedly more in Battles’ case). It’s really exhilarating stuff.
Verona Grove - “Goodbye Surrender”
Los Angeles, CA
File Size: 2.93 mb, Length: 3:12
(Right-click above link to save on a PC, control-click to save on a MAC)Verona Grove’s newest album is produced by American Hi-Fi’s producer, and the same poppy, sugary feel has rubbed off here. The band is compared to American Hi-Fi and All-American Rejects, so you can kind of guess what the trio would sound like. These guys may have moved to California from Wisconsin, but they seem to have gotten the feel of Southern California pop-punk. If you want something that is corny and feel-good, this song just may hit the spot. Consider it a possible guilty pleasure.
