Dreamt Music & Thieves & Liars

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Growing up in Southern California, I was able to be a part of promoting, viewing, and watching Facedown Records grow from a small indie label into a major force to be reckoned with. With bands such as No Innocent Victim, Overcome, Born Blind, Point of Recognition and others, the label was home to two things that I love very much; hardcore/heavy music and faith. These bands created a fire that has grown to all new heights. They have grown to such great proportions as of late that they no longer are just Facedown Records, they are now publishing music through Dreamt Music and caters to a surging rock interest across the nation!

Their first signing Thieves & Liars have already created a buzz within rock communities and are definitely going to be a great addition to the Facedown Family and of course the new label, Dreamt Music.

Below is the official press release…you guys are in for a treat! Keep your eyes here and your ears open, for some good music from So-Cal’s premiere independent record label.

Introducing Thieves & Liars on new label Dreamt Music

Today marks the dawn of Dreamt Music, an imprint record label founded by Jason Dunn of Facedown Records.  After 10 successful years owning and operating the widely known metal/hardcore record label, Jason has set his sights on genres completely out of the realm of Facedown’s jurisdiction.

Dreamt Music will focus on a diverse assortment of rock bands, attuning to a much wider audience.  Citing Facedown’s staunch branding in the heavy-music field as one of his main priorities, Jason explained the basis for the Dreamt Music platform.  “It is very important that we keep heavy music associated with Facedown so that fans know what they can expect when they see the logo on an album.  Dreamt Music affords us the opportunity to allow Facedown’s focus to remain specific to its genre while simultaneously giving us the freedom to explore more rock-oriented bands.”  His sentiment represents that of the entire Facedown staff, all of who are looking forward to hand-selecting fresh talent for the new label’s roster as well as the chance to delve professionally into a broader range of music.

The birth of Dreamt Music is not just the realization of a long-term goal for Jason but also a window for him to work more closely with Facedown band members in a new way.  The inaugural Dreamt Music release has strong ties to the Facedown Family; Thieves & Liars is a blues-rock outfit ala Pink Floyd that boasts founding member Corey Edelmann, formerly of Facedown’s long-standing hardcore band No Innocent Victim.  Jason and his staff are tremendously excited about the release of the Thieves & Liars debut album “When Dreams Become Reality.”  “This album has been playing in the Facedown office non-stop for months and it is an honor to be involved with an album of this caliber,” says Jason.

Dreamt Music makes Facedown Records available to support their artists as they freely write the music they love, giving the artists a new expressive outlet.  “Good music is good music, and this is a great opportunity for us to use the resources we have built up over the last 10 years with Facedown.”

Dreamt Music will be distributed nationwide by RED Distribution and will be serviced to all industry outlets by the Facedown staff.

Yaaay!!! Genghis Tron just finished its new album! Outside of owning one of the best band names ever, Genghis Tron brings about an uncompromising blast of cybergrind. Fueled just as much by a maniacal metal rage as synthesizers and drum machines, the band is able to seeth destruction without sounding like some sort of cheap gimmick. Genghis Tron is hitting the road with the almighty Dillinger Escape Plans in what no doubt will be one of the loudest shows of the year (and next if it stretches that long).

Sigur Rós - Heima Trailer
Reykjavík, Iceland

Sigur Rós’ new album, Hvarf-Heim, comes out November 6th, and they’re on tour. Sure, they’re kind of on tour for their album, but it seems like they’re even more on tour for their movie (the movie came out first, and the album accompanies it). Filmed entirely in Iceland, Heima shows off the country’s amazing scenery alongside the band’s music, which is perfectly suitable for the style of the film. It also features interviews with the members, despite their discomfort with giving interviews before a camera. Since their last album two years ago, Sigur Rós has been reestablishing themselves as not only a band, but mixed media artists of sorts. First came their book, In The Frozen Sea: A Year With Sigur Rós, which came with limited edition vinyls (seven of them total) and a hard cover art book. Now comes a movie and a brand new album to match it. On November 5th, Heima will be released as a Special Edition double DVD package with a 104-page book containing stunning photos from the tour. It will also be released as a standard 2-DVD set. The first disc of both packages features the Heima’ film with a choice of a 5.1 Surround Sound or PCM Stereo mix, whilst the second DVD will contain the full performances of each song in the movie, amongst many other extras. This is the first chance to see Sigur Rós live on DVD.

If you have a chance to catch Sigur Rós on tour right now, you can see Heima in its entirety. Those in Los Angeles this weekend are doubly in for a treat, since you get treated to a movie AND three acoustic songs. Lucky.
