M83 ANNOUNCES AMBIENT SERIES: DIGITAL SHADES
“DIGITAL SHADES VOL. 1″ RELEASED DIGITALLY 9/4/07
ONLINE INTERACTIVE LISTENING PARTY 8/27/07
NEW M83 ALBUM TO BE RELEASED EARLY 2008
Digital Shades is an ongoing ambient series from acclaimed French musician M83, aka Anthony Gonzalez. “Digital Shades Vol. 1″ will be released in the U.S. digitally on September 4, 2007. Originally recorded in 2006, “Digital Shades Vol. 1 “will precede the release of M83’s next full-length artist album. The album, as yet untitled, is set for release in early 2008 and will be a continuation of the vast and epic soundscapes that are synonymous with M83. Gonzalez’ is currently in the studio working on the album, which is being recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron).
Listeners will find the same textured richness throughout the Digital Shades series as can be found on all of M83’s releases. And while not a categorical sonic shift, Digital Shades follows its individual elegiac, lunar and dream-like path.
Recorded primarily at his home studio with the assistance of Antoine Gaillet, (who also worked on “Before the Dawn Heals Us”), Gonzalez was able to work without pressure, working on the record at his own time and pace. Inspired by Eno and Krautrock in its many forms, M83 focused heavily on subtleties and atmospherics during the writing process. The idea of digital, relevant during all the process (from creating the music to sharing it), gave him the idea to call the project “Digital Shades Vol.1″, and to make the album part of an ongoing series.
Fans can enjoy a sneak preview of the album during a special online interactive listening party and Q&A with Gonzalez on Monday 8/27/07 at 2pm EST. To attend, register at www.ilovem83.com.
Health - “Triceratops (CFCF Remix)”

The new wave, 80s revival crap that’s coming out these days can undoubtedly sound corny, but sometimes you begin to lose sight of the stuff that’s corny, yet amazingly good. “Triceratops” remix of a Health track combines the best of 80s synths which are reminiscent of a Megaman soundtrack. If you like Nintendo midi music, chances are you will looooooooove this track. This remix is definitely a lot poppier and easier to swallow than the original of this track, which is a lot more experimental. You can listen to the original on Health’s Myspace. Health will be on tour in the United States starting from September 25th. 40 dates across the States!
Health is releasing a remix album, featuring remixes by Acid Girls, Captain Ahab, CFCF, Crystal Castles, Curses!, David Gilmore Girls, Ian Hixxx, Juiceboxxx, Lovely Chords, The Mae Shi, Nosajthing, Narctrax, Pink Skull, Thrust Lab, Toxic Avenger, and more.
While we’re at it, here’s a Crimewave Remix by Crystal Castles, lifted from YouTube.
Ashley Toman and Patricia Kline, both recipients of Master of Music Degrees from Rochester, NY’s Eastman School of Music, formed Harptallica originally to perform a series of arrangements based on the music of Metallica.
The duo’s arrangements bring the famed metal band’s songs into a new light, illuminating the comfortable transition metal makes into classical music theory and opening those songs to a wider array of listeners.
While taking the next step in bringing their harps on the road, Harptallica hopes both to introduce audiences to new and original combinations of musical styles and to of course give tribute to a band they were both introduced to as a ‘musical giant’: Metallica.

10/##/07 … Thursday - DVD/CD Package (Victory Records)
We have some exciting news!!! We know that everyone is wondering what is next for us (New Label? New Record? Touring? Breaking up?). We’re proud to announce that we will be releasing a DVD/CD on our former label, Victory Records. Surprise! A lot of the footage from this DVD was taken during the time we spent on Victory and we thought it was appropriate to release it with them. On a more personal note, many of you know that our parting with Victory was bitter on both sides and we’re taking this chance to put that behind us. That label really helped us get to where we are and we helped them to establish themselves as well… “coming full circle” and “making amends” are some of the phrases that we could throw around here but we think you get the picture already. Tony’s passion for this project and his continued support of the band after all these years has helped to make this an easy decision.
We’re really looking forward to this release. The DVD will be a retrospective of our band’s career so far(footage from the last nine years) with a ton of live stuff. Everyone always says we’re much better live than on record– now you can decide. The CD will have several new tracks(!) and some alternate versions and demos of older songs.
Once the DVD and CD are complete, we will be starting work on a new album soon after and the home for that has yet to be determined.
- THURSDAY
The DVD/Album package will be in stores October 30, 2007.
“There’s so much lost time to cover,” says Buck in a recent interview with The Louisville Eccentric Observer’s Mat Herron. “Basically, I’m trying to start anew.” After a successful 10 year run in VHS or Beta – which included a national arena tour with Duran Duran – Buck now devotes his time and talent to People Noise, the band he started with good friend and ex-Boom Bip member Matt Johnson. With Johnson on drums and Buck on, well, everything else, these Louisville natives have produced an epic, drone-laced rock album reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Spiritualized and Interpol.
Although we never heard him sing a lick during his years in VHS or Beta, Buck’s resume would lead us to ask the question, “why the hell not?” From the ripe age of only four years old he was belting out opera all over the country until the inevitable struck: puberty. Unfortunately for him, it struck in the middle of a performance. It wasn’t until only recently that Buck began to sing again. For a number of months he studied under Turley Richards, a blind Louisville musician with a vocal range that would impress Whitney Houston, and eventually regained the confidence that was lost long ago. On People Noise’s debut album Ordinary Ghosts, Buck sings about everything from reincarnation to thoughts on his former band.
Johnson, a guitarist turned drummer with an experimental electronic music background, boasts quite a resume himself. During his time in Boom Bip, he toured extensively across Europe and has shared the stage with notable acts like LCD Soundsystem, Yo La Tengo, Pinback and Matt Pond PA. Johnson has also performed at London BBC Peel Sessions, Centre Pompideu, Royal Festival Hall and The Renne Music Festival in Renne, France. Not to mention he studied the djembe under Yaya Diallo for a number of years. Quite an accomplishment for a guy who wrote and performed all of the drum parts on Ordinary Ghosts on a rural Kentucky farm with no internet and no cell phone service!
For its live shows, Johnson and Buck are joined by Rahman McGuinnis on guitar, Woody Woodmansee on keyboards, and Sam Marino on bass. People Noise’s debut album Ordinary Ghosts album hit stores on June 12th. And, considering its crazy tour schedule, the band might be available to deliver its album straight to your door.

Dreamy, indie-pop band Eisley are back and hitting the road with a series of special, acoustic performances in support of their upcoming album Combinations, which will be released by Reprise Records in September. The stripped-down setting is the perfect way to fully experience the DuPree family’s signature harmonies and hauntingly beautiful lyrics. Also, catch Eisley opening for The Fray beginning July 9th in Nashville, TN, (full tour schedule is below).
The powerful follow-up to 2005’s Room Noises, Combinations “possesses a decidedly heavier sound and more introspective lyrics,” says Nylon magazine in a feature on Eisley in this month’s Music Issue. To make the record, the band joined forces with renowned composer and former Oingo Boingo keyboardist Richard Gibbs, who is best known for his work on the movies Say Anything and Queen of the Damned, and the television series Battlestar Galactica. Gibbs and the DuPree family - Chauntelle (guitars), Sherri (guitars/vocals), Stacy (keyboards/vocals), Weston (drums), and cousin Garron DuPree - set up shop in Malibu, CA, in Gibbs’ studio The Woodshed with noted engineer Csaba “Chubba” Petocz, who has worked with Etta James, Elvis Costello, and Metallica.
Eisley, who hail from the Deep Ellum District of Dallas, TX, earned a sensational buzz from two EP’s - Laughing City and Marvelous Things - and the stellar full-length Room Noises. Their larger-than-life energy led to tours with Coldplay and Taking Back Sunday, as well as slots on Coachella, SXSW, and Austin City Limits, giving them a platform for their own sold-out headlining tour last year,.
This acoustic tour is going to be an incredible way for both first-timers and avid fans to experience this memorable band.

After concluding the first US tour in Minneapolis on October 13th, 2007, González will tour the UK and Europe. He will return to the US for a second tour beginning November 2007 (dates TBA).
“In Our Nature” sees González coming into his own as a songwriter – displaying a heightened emphasis on melody and strong, focused lyrics with songs that are as instantly accessible as they are brimming with darkness and brooding intensity. It is the follow up to González’ debut album “Veneer” (reissued on Mute April 2006) which went platinum in the UK and Ireland and sold more than 700,000 worldwide.
